Behavioral Science and Community Health
Alba Burns, M.D.
- (a) received funding from Scott Adams and began conducting a needs assessment on TB and HIV surveillance and control in Guatemala;
- (b) is organizing a large, multi-country program on training in tuberculosis control;
- (c) is working in El Salvador to establish a Center of Excellence in TB Training in cooperation with Guatemala, Honduras, Nicaragua, Dominican Republic, and Haiti.
- (d) led a spring break educational trip to El Salvador (2007);
- (e) has been involved in the summer trip to the Yucatan Peninsula for anthropology students led by her husband, Dr. Allen Burns; and
- (f) Dr. Burns also teaches our course on international health.

Giselle Mann, Ph.D.
Dr. Giselle Mann is directing, along with Dr Cary [Communicative Disorders], an international, multisite trial in swallowing rehabilitation with colleagues in Australia – this involves three hospitals in Perth and Melbourne. She is also working on combined grants through the NH&MRC mechanism with the Australian investigators and currently publishes with Dr Hankey (neurologist in Australia).
